BUDGET & TRAVEL

Understanding costs and timing

What will the visit cost, and how long will you be away? We help you work through the hospital estimate, our service fees and everyday expenses, then put them alongside the expected appointment and recovery schedule.

Marlinden CareUpdated

AT A GLANCE

  • The first conversation and preliminary hospital enquiries are free.
  • Hospital charges, Marlinden fees and travel expenses are separate parts of your budget.
  • Allow time for assessment, treatment, recovery and follow-up, then confirm your flight date with the treating team.
01

When paid work begins

During the free initial conversation, we discuss your situation, possible hospitals, indicative costs and timing. We also make preliminary hospital or department enquiries. Your coordinator is supported by MD/PhD review and supervision from this stage.

Once you decide to proceed, we put the services, prices and terms in writing and sign an agreement with you. Paid work begins with detailed record collection, preparation and translation, or the other support you choose. Hospital consultation and review charges are listed separately.

StageHow it is charged
Initial conversation & preliminary enquiriesFree. Discuss the options and what would need to happen next.
Before travelA package or individual services covering records, translation, hospital communication and visit preparation.
During your stayAccompaniment, interpreting and practical coordination, priced for the support you choose.
After returning homeDischarge translations, follow-up coordination and documents for your doctor at home.

Choose a package or individual services, and tell us which parts you’ll arrange yourself. We work out the scope and price together, including whether you would like an online hospital consultation.

02

Build a budget for the whole visit

Budget categoryItems to check
Hospital & doctorsConsultations, tests, procedures, medicines, implants or devices, anaesthesia, ward charges and clinical follow-up.
Marlinden servicesRecord preparation, translation, consultation coordination, interpreting, accompaniment and travel support.
Travel & daily livingFlights, entry documents, accommodation, meals, local transport and a companion’s expenses.
Possible changesAdditional tests, a revised treatment plan, a longer stay, extra interpreting time or changes to travel bookings.

We help identify fixed charges, estimates and services billed by the visit, day or hour. For hospital deposits, we clarify how the advance payment is applied to your final bill, when further payment may be needed and how any unused balance is returned.

For treatment involving several admissions or cycles, we clarify whether the estimate covers one stage or the full proposed course. Rehabilitation and follow-up should also show the number of appointments included.

03

Comparing treatment quotes

If you have a quote from another hospital or country, bring the itemised version. We can go through it with you and check the procedure, medicines, devices and ward arrangements against the Chinese hospital’s estimate.

Ask both providersWhy it changes the comparison
What exactly is being proposed? An assessment, an operation, a medicine course and a study visit are different items.
Which ward and how many nights?Room category and additional nights can change the total.
Are doctors, anaesthesia and devices included? Some quotes separate these from the hospital or procedure charge.
What happens if the plan changes?Further assessment or treatment can create costs outside the original estimate.
Which follow-up and translations are included?Your costs may continue after discharge or after returning home.
What currency and validity period apply?Exchange rates, transfer fees and an expired quote can affect the amount you pay.

We put the hospital estimate and Marlinden fees side by side, so you can see where the money goes and discuss the budget with your family.

04

Confirm payment and insurance arrangements early

Your payment schedule should show who receives each payment, what it covers, the currency and due date. We keep hospital payment instructions separate from our service fees and go through cancellation or rescheduling terms before you commit.

  • We help confirm the hospital’s payment methods for deposits and final settlement, including transaction limits.
  • Tell your insurer the hospital and planned treatment in China. We can help gather the information it requests.
  • Get written confirmation from your insurer about prior authorisation, direct settlement and your share of the costs.
  • For reimbursement claims, we help organise the invoices, medical reports and translations your insurer requires.
  • Include planned treatment, additional care and complications in your coverage questions, as these may be handled differently under your policy.

Keep the insurer’s coverage confirmation with your estimates and receipts, so you have the payment details together when you need them.

05

Plan your time in stages

We help map out the visit from arrival to follow-up: what can be prepared at home, which appointments need to happen in China and how much recovery time to allow before the journey back.

StageQuestions for your schedule
Before arrivalWhen will records be ready? Is a hospital review needed? Which appointment and entry documents are confirmed?
AssessmentWhich examinations or tests need to happen in person? When will results be discussed?
Treatment or admissionWhat needs to be completed before treatment can be scheduled? Is more than one admission expected?
Recovery near the hospitalAre there reviews or monitoring after discharge? Do I need a companion or accessible accommodation?
Return & follow-upWhen does the treating team advise that I can travel, and what follow-up is needed at home?

For surgery, the schedule needs room for preparation, recovery and post-operative reviews. Treatment in several stages may involve intervals at home or a longer stay near the hospital. A health assessment also needs time to discuss the results and arrange any further investigations. We work through the relevant stages with the hospital.

If some dates are still being worked out, consider flexible flights and accommodation that can be extended. Before the return journey, confirm your travel date with the treating team and check whether the airline needs medical documentation.

06

Before you commit, check these details

  • I understand which services are free and which paid services I am choosing.
  • I have the medical estimate and Marlinden quote as separate items, with their dates and currencies.
  • My quotes show what each payment covers and which items are charged separately.
  • I know the payment recipients, deposit requirements and cancellation terms.
  • I know which dates are confirmed and what still depends on assessment or results.
  • My plan includes accommodation, a companion if needed, follow-up and the return journey.

Go through this list with your coordinator before booking. We’ll follow up with the hospital on outstanding costs or dates and keep you updated as they are confirmed.

Common questions

Can you give me an exact price during the free conversation?

During the first conversation, we discuss likely medical costs, our service fees and the cost of staying in China. We then work with the hospital on an estimate for your case. You receive a quote for our services before paid work begins.

Does paying Marlinden include the hospital bill?

Hospital bills and Marlinden fees are shown separately. Your proposal lists what each payment covers and who receives it.

Can I book my own hotel and transport?

Yes. You can arrange these yourself and choose only the support you need. Confirm the hospital campus and appointment arrangements before choosing accommodation.

What if I need to stay longer?

We help check the extra hospital, accommodation and support costs, and go through the changes with you. Any additional Marlinden services and fees are agreed with you before we take on the extra work.
